On April 23rd, 2014, the Preparatory stage of All-Ukrainian open competition for the best idea of Memorial site Heavenly Hundred Heroes in Kyiv was launched.
Starting from May 6th, 2014 wide public discussion of Program and terms of Competition drafts begun in the Kyiv House of Architect. The public discussion proceeded till November, 2014. During this period 35 public events with 1650 visitors took place. On June, 2014 the public opinion of 1000 respondents were learned through the face-to-face poll on Maidan.
Also during the discussions Civic Experts Council of the competition was formed. It analyzed and articulate the demands and inquiries of Kyiv community.
KYIV COMMUNITY DEMANDS
- the right to determine the topic and ideology of the competition belongs to the people of Ukraine;
- wide public discussion of competition brief and submitted contest projects;
- international open competition
- everyone can submit a project for the competition without professional limitation (first time in Ukraine)
- competition focuses on practical implementation of the best proposals and has not to be "paper";
- competition aims to integrity, complexity, ideological, stylistic and functional united proposals, not to the set of eclectic spatial and functional solutions;
- charity contributions as a source to finance the competition.
SOCIAL Inquiries
- the Heavenly Hundred Heroes’ feat have to be honored on the highest world level.
- creation of conditions to each person to feel worthily and to feel himself a member of the community, nation.
- creation of modern European public space which should be free of officious political propaganda and commercial advertisement, be safe and accessible for everybody.
- creation of conditions for the new peaceful social practices’ development. Providing opportunities for the community and the different social groups to realize their initiatives.
- “Ukrainian House on European Square” has to be a newly created place to recognize a role and a value of Ukraine among the other European states.
- “Museum of Maidan / Museum of Freedom” has to become the museum of the new type, the place for Ukrainian democracy development and Ukrainian political nation forming.
«TERRITORY OF DIGNITY» IS THE FIRST OPEN CONTEST IN UKRAINE WITH THE BRIEF PREPEARED BY COMMUNITY ITSELF.
AIM OF COMPETITION:
- to turn the territory of revolutionary events into “Territory of Dignity”;
- to memorialize the feat of Heavenly Hundred Heroes;
- to rethink Soviet heritage and to turn “Ukrainian House on European Square” into International cultural centre of Ukraine taken as a member of European Family of Countries;
- to propose a place and a vision of the main centre for developing of Ukrainian political nation – “Museum of Maidan / Museum of Freedom”.
There were 478 applications from 40 countries. Since the 1st of December, 2014 till 28th of February, 2015 the planning period has been lasting. Totally 149 submitted projects from 13 countries: Ukraine, Lithuania, USA, China, Japan, Ireland, India, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, Italy, Germany, Canada.
Since the 6th of April till the 31st of May, 2015 everybody had a chance to choose the best project through the open e-platform demos.org.ua
The board of International Jury was at the beginning of June. The wining projects in each nomination were defined. All competitive projects can be viewed at the outdoor exhibition on Maidan till the 25th of June, 2015.

The wining projects also will be the object of public discussions. It is important for organizers of competition that ideas which are highly appreciated by professional Jury also to be supported Kiev community.
